Assam farmer goes missing from Raipur railway station

railway station during wee hours on October 24. Though, the man was accompanied by his niece during the journey, she is clueless where did he suddenly disappear. His family has reached Raipur and reported the matter to police. Pamphlets of Gagan

Gogoi

, 50, from village Napam, Dhemaji, Assam were pasted and distributed at railway station as an attempt to search the farmer.

Gogoi, whose mental condition is said to be absolutely normal, was travelling from Guwahati to Nagpur in

Karmabhumi Express

on October 24. He had plans to further travel to Pune to meet his daughter. When contacted Gogoi's niece, who was with him during the journey, said that they had waiting seats which they were scheduled to get at Raigarh late night.

"When we got the seats, I went to sleep and he was on another seat in neighbouring compartment. Early morning when I woke up, I found him and his bags missing from the seat. When inquired, a passenger told me he got down at Raipur railway station with three bags at around 4.45 am. The train had till then reached Rajnandgaon station. I immediately informed his family and police."

As it was the first time Gogoi was travelling in train, his sons had ensured to give him all the important numbers in a pocket diary, sufficient cash and had counselled him about contacting police in case he feels lost.

"If lost, he would have definitely contacted us, though he can't speak Hindi but can speak easy English. Earlier, during the journey, he forgot the way to his seat from train's washroom and he had gone to a different coach. When I went searching for him, I saw him seeking help from a passenger to make a call on my number. So he is smart enough to seek help," his niece said.
A missing case was lodged at Raipur GRP and the search was on.
