The accident happened late Sunday night in the Daundi police station area. The victims, residents of Gunderdehi, were returning from a family function when the SUV crashed head-on with the truck, officials said.

Out of the 13 passengers in the SUV, six died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Durpat Prajapati (30), four women—Sumitra Bai Kumbhkar (50), Manisha Kumbhkar (35), Sagun Bai Kumbhkar (50), Imla Bai (55)—and a 7-year-old boy, Jignesh Kumbhkar.

The seven injured, including five women and a child, were initially taken to a local community health center and later referred to Rajnandgaon district hospital for further treatment.

Police have registered an accidental death report and are investigating the case.
