5 Maoists with 20L reward surrender in Dantewada

Raipur: Three women Maoists and a male, carrying a cumulative cash reward of Rs 20 lakh on their heads, surrendered in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday. The Naxalites included a couple, and they cited that they were disappointed with the hollow and inhuman Maoist ideology, which pushed them to surrender. According to Dantewada SP Gaurav Rai, the four Naxalites narrated the infighting going on between senior cadres and the tribal Naxals, who are low in ranks and face exploitation. The couple, Hunga Tamo and Aayti Tati, carried cash reward of Rs 8 lakh each and were active with the regional company number two of Maoists. They were found to be involved in several attacked on security forces. They were allegedly involved in an attack on security personnel in 2018 in the forests of Pamde in Bijapur located on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana inter-state border, the SP said. Other two women Naxalites, Deve alias Vijje and Madvi, carried rewards of Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively. While Vijje was member of north sub zonal bureau, and was responsible for educating the cadres on Maoism and its ideology, Madvi was the head of Puvarti Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangthan.Police said that all the four cadres are residents of Sukma district and were provided with an initial compensation amount of Rs 25,000 each and will further be rehabilitated. According to records, 872 Naxalites, including 197 rewarded, have surrendered under 'Lon Varratu' campaign which means ‘return to your home' since June 2020.
