Acting on specific information about the presence of Maoist commanders Kosi and Mangdu at Belpochcha and Nulkatong Gompad area in Konta, a DRG team set out to intercept them, said Sukma SP Sunil Sharma.

When the police team was near Kanhaiguda, they came under fire from Maoists hidden behind trees. The DRG personnel counterattacked and pushed the Maoists back into the forest. The Maoists managed to escape with the four-five injured cadres, the SP said.

“Our teams returned safely. After the encounter, 160 DRG personnel in four teams and 65 CRPF personnel carried out a search operation that lasted four hours but the Maoists managed to escape,” said Sharma.

The security forces found six gelatin rods, 10 detonators, seven iron spikes (used in traps to maim jawans), a bundle of electric wire, a radio set, Maoist literature, said the SP.
