Sukma SP Kiran Chavan said that joint security forces from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA went out on anti-Naxal operation on Friday, based on inputs about the presence of Maoists in the area.

An encounter broke out between security personnel and Maoists on Saturday morning and two Maoist bodies were recovered from the site of the encounter.

Though the firing stopped, the troops are searching the area and the operation is still on in the forest of Kistaram region, police said.

The search will be intensified across Bastar division with the beginning of TCOC (tactical counter offensive campaign) in summer. The identification of the killed Maoists is yet to be done.

So far, 83 Maoists have been killed in Bastar division and Gariaband district this year.
