PUNE: The Cantonment police have arrested Ganesh Shobane (25) of Parvathi and recovered four cartridges from him during a nakabandi operation at Mohammed Rafi chowk on MG road late on Wednesday night.
The Pune Cantonment court on Thursday sent Shobane to police custody till December 15.
A police team conducting nakabandi intercepted a motorcycle carrying two persons at MG road.
One of them fled on seeing the police while Shobane, who was riding the vehicle, was over powered by the police on suspicion about 8.30 pm.
Inspector Deepak Humbre of the Cantonment police said the police recovered four cartridges and the motorcycle from him and has identified his accomplice as Nitin Lokhare who is in possession of a revolver and two cartridges.
Humbre said that Shobane, during interrogation, said that Lokhare, who is involved in a murder case registered with Sahakarnagar police station, had purchased the revolver and the cartridges for self defence as he feared that he might be attacked by rival criminals operating in Sahakarnagar area.
The duo, who were staying together in Kalewadi, were planning to flee to Mumbai, he added. Police are on the look out for Lokhare. Sub inspector S.S. Sanke is investigating further.
