Young city 'physicist' makes a mark in US
PUNE: It was a proud moment for parents and teachers of 16-year-old Hamsa Padmanabhan ��� a standard XII student of science at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ganeshkhind ��� who won the second prize for physics at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), in Indianapolis, US, earlier this week.
Hamsa is among five Indian students to win an award at the world's largest pre-college science competition, after competing with over 1,400 students from 47 countries.

While Hamsa's parents are eagerly awaiting their daughter's arrival on Tuesday, the principal of her school, Kranti Kumari, told TOI that they always knew their student would make it to the big league.
"It's a proud moment for all of us," Kumari said. Hamsa was the topper in the std. XI science stream earlier this year, securing 97 per cent in the final exams.
Arvind Gupta, an IITian who joined the Iucaa to popularise science in rural India, was Hamsa's teacher and had inspired her.
