Vimannagar resident sends legal notice on one-way plan
Pune: Vimannagar resident Qaneez Sukhrani has served a legal notice on Pune police, seeking immediate revocation of the one-way traffic plan implemented in the area. She alleged that it was arbitrary, unsafe and introduced without adequate public consultation. The notice was sent to the additional commissioner of police and called for a consultative meeting with residents within 15 days. It emphasised that legal action would be taken — including a writ petition before the Bombay high court.
The notice said the revised traffic plan was formally launched on Nov 15, 2025. It converted key stretches such as Gangapuram Chowk to Ganpati Mandir Chowk and the route from Shrikrishna Chowk to CCD Chowk into one-way corridors. While authorities reportedly cited reduced travel time and increased vehicle speeds as benefits, the notice claimed the "ground reality is starkly different" and said the plan created confusion, congestion and safety risks for pedestrians and senior citizens. The notice also alleged a lack of proper signals, road markings and safe pedestrian crossings. It claimed authorities failed to enforce parking regulations or address encroachments and illegal parking by commercial vehicles. The notice demanded the immediate withdrawal of the current one-way system and suggested alternatives such as peak-hour restrictions, infrastructure upgrades and stricter enforcement against illegal parking.
