PUNE: Post-graduate students will form a human chain from the main gate of University of Pune to its main building at 11 am on Monday as part of their stir against the recent fee hike.
The university has introduced a fee hike for all graduate and post graduate courses from this academic year. The fees are to be revised by ten per cent every year, at least for the next five years, vice-chancellor Ashok Kolaskar has clarified.
The students, who are demanding a rollback of the hike are on an indefinite strike.
They continue to attend classes under trees in the university premises in protest of the hike, but claim all other major educational activities have come to a standstill. Student activists also allege that the university is bringing pressure on them to withdraw the stir.
Meanwhile, prominent personalities such as social activist Baba Amte and Vidya Bal, actors Nilu Phule and Shriram Lagoo, poet Narayan Surve, playwrights Jayant Pawar and Premanand Gajvi have joined a signature campaign against the fee hike.
