A couple got crushed under the wheels of a speeding tanker on the Pune-Mumbai highway at Lonavla on Thursday afternoon while their two-year-old daughter escaped with minor injuries.

PUNE: A couple got crushed under the wheels of a speeding tanker on the Pune-Mumbai highway at Lonavla on Thursday afternoon while their two-year-old daughter escaped with minor injuries.
The victims, Santosh Mahadev Jadhav (29) and his wife Rohini (25), were residents of Krushnanagar in Chinchwad. Their daughter Arya is being treated at a private hospital in Lonavla for minor injuries.

Tanker driver Laxman Dalvi of Valwan has been arrested for negligent driving.
Sub-inspector of Lonavla city police station S A Bhosale said the family had gone to Lonavla- Khandala on Thursday for a picnic. After sight-seeing, the couple was on the way home when a speeding tanker knocked their bike near Ambarwadi Ganesh temple. While Santosh and Rohini came under the wheels of the tanker, Arya escaped with minor injuries as she fell on the other side of the road. Rohini died on the spot and Santosh, who had sustained severe injuries, was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, said Bhosale.
