PUNE: A scooty belonging to the wife of a police inspector was torched at the official quarters of the State Reserve Police Force, Group II, at Ramtedki in Wanowrie on Wednesday night.
The incident came to light after police inspector Ishwar Chaudhari’s wife Sunita (49) registered a complaint with the Wanowrie police on Friday against an unidentified person for damaging the vehicle.
Chaudhari is posted at SRPF, Group I, but he resides at the official quarters for Group II personnel.
Sunita had parked the vehicle at the parking lot when an unidentied man set the scooty ablaze by allegedly pouring petrol or kerosene, police said.
The incident came to the notice of the Chaudharis on Thursday.
Sub inspector Mangesh Bhange from the Wanowrie police station said this is for the second time that the vehicle owned by the Chaudharis was torched. Their vehicle was first torched around two months ago and an FIR was lodged.
There is no eye witness to the incident. There are no CCTV cameras installed at the state reserve police quarters. Since the entry inside the SRPF quarters is restricted for outsiders, we suspect the involvement of an insider. We are working on some clues for detecting the case at the earliest, he added.
A case has been registered under sections 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code.
