PUNE: Sudheer Madhukar Pathak, founder director of the Millennium National School in Karvenagar and his wife Vaidehi Pathak was killed and two others were injured as the Innova in which were travelling in fell into a nullah after hitting the road divider at Deole bridge on the Pune- Mumbai expressway, around 65 km from the city on Saturday evening.
The Lonavla rural police said Pathak was identified from the visiting cards found in the car.
The injured were identified as Phatak's son in-law Nikhil Vinod Karkare (30) of Karvenagar and driver Vikrant Namdeo Rele (30) of Bavdhan.
According to the police, the car was heading from Mumbai to Pune. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which plunged into the nullah after hitting the road divider at about 5.30 pm.
The impact of the mishap was such that the Phatak couple died on the spot.
The victim's family friend Laxmikant Khabia told TOI that Sudheer Phatak was the director of the Millennium National school and his wife Vaidehi was the trustee. Khabia said the Phataks, along with their son-in-law Karkare had left for Mumbai on Saturday morning for some work.
Karkare and Rele are undergoing treatment at the Lokmanya hospital in Nigdi, Khabia added.
Post-mortem of the deceased was performed at the Talegaon Dabhade primary hospital. The police are investigating the case.
