The Shivajinagar police on Sunday arrested two former employees of the Kalakruti textiles for their alleged involvement in stealing saris worth Rs 30 lakh from the shop on May 27.

PUNE: The Shivajinagar police on Sunday arrested two former employees of the Kalakruti textiles for their alleged involvement in stealing saris worth Rs 30 lakh from the shop on May 27.
The police have identified the suspects as Raju Ambadas Malviya (28) of Shivajinagar and Vijay Solanki (38) of Pashan. They were arrested on the basis of the image captured by the closed circuit television camera (CCTV) in the shop on the day of the incident.

However, the police are yet to recover the stolen material from the suspects. The suspects had stolen 750 Banaras and Surat saris worth Rs 15 lakh, 300 Banaras silk saris worth Rs 9 lakh, 400 Surat work saris worth Rs 6 lakh, 70 ready-made shirts worth Rs 24,500 and dress material worth Rs 15,000, totalling Rs 30,39,500 between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
Inspector (crime) Maya Bankar of Shivajinagar police station said when CCTV images were shown to owner of the shop Kailash Satyanarayan Agarwal, he identified the suspects as his former employees. Agarwal also told the police that the duo had left about six month back. They were employed in the shop for 5-and-half years.
"We arrested the duo on Sunday and produced them in the court. They were remanded to police custody till June 7."
Bankar said investigations have revealed that after leaving the job, the duo had opened grocery shops in Pashan and Shivajinagar area. "We are yet to recover the stolen material from them We are working on it," Bankar said.
