Pune : The Pune crime branch recently arrested two criminals on the police records for assaulting a a 25-year-old man following a previous rivalry. The incident happened on March 21 at Bahvani Peth.
The injured Altaf Usman Shaikh of Bhavani Peth is under going treatment in a city-based hospital.
The police have identified the suspects as Tausif alias Dadda Naushad Shaikh (26) and Wasim alias Machhi Naushad Shaikh (24) both of Harkanagar in Bhavani Peth. The crime branch (unit-I) led by inspector Raghunath Phuge has made the arrests.
Phuge said that about three months ago Altaf and Tausif had entered into a brawl over some petty issue. Furious by this the Tausif and Wasim hatched the plot to eliminate Usman, Phuge said.
He said that on March 21, when Altaf was walking on his way home, the duo assaulted him with sharp weapons and fled away. "While conducting parallel investigations our team got tip-off about the duo. We nabbed them before they could escape from the city," Phuge added.
The suspect Tausif has cases of dacoity and theft registered against him with the Kolhapur police station. The investigating team comprised assistant inspector Mahendra Jadhav, police constables Ravindra Kadam, Ramesh Bhosale, Maheboob Mokashi, Tushar Khadke and Shrikant Waghavale.
