PUNE: The court of additional sessions judge O P Jaiswal on Wednesday sentenced two convicts to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000 each for kidnapping a woman in 2008.
According to the prosecution, Bhagirath Gadge (35) and Pramod Pawar (25), both residents of Wadgaon Anand in Alephata, had kidnapped the 26-year old school teacher while she was going home on February 28, 2008.
The prosecution said that Gadge had developed a liking for the woman and used to tease her. The victim's father had registered a non-cognizable offence against Gadge with the Narayangaon police station. The woman had also complained about Gadge's misbehaviour to the school authorities and they had taken up the issue with the police. The police had taken preventive action against Gadge on May 27, 2007.
Additional public prosecutor Sunil More said that Gadge and his driver Pawar abducted the woman and took her to Yeola for performing marriage. However, the woman complained of severe throat ache and Gadge rushed her to a doctor. The doctor alerted the Yeola police and got the duo arrested.
The police had recovered a sari and other articles for the marriage from Gadge. The prosecution had examined eight witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused. The duo was sentenced to two years of RI for threatening the woman and another six months' RI for hurting her. All the sentences will run concurrently.
