PUNE: The Mundhwa police on Tuesday arrested two people in connection with the robbing of a 23-year-old woman near ABC Farms, Koregaon Park on June 28. The woman was relieved of a gold chain, cash and a cellphone totally worth Rs 41,400.
Mahesh Gavdade (23) and Ravi Vasekar (23) were picked up from Kedgaon in Daund taluka, near Pune, on Tuesday. Both are residents of Kedgaon.
On June 28, Pooja Nitin Chaudhari, a resident of Wadgaonsheri, was on her way back home from work when she was waylaid by two motorcycle-borne youths near ABC Farms. The duo allegedly snatched her bag containing cash and valuables and pushed her before speeding away from the spot on their bike. Chaudhari is a marketing professional.
The Mundhwa police had registered a case of robbery on the basis of Chaudhari's complaint. In the ensuing investigations, the police managed to trace the location of the mobile handset with the help of global positioning system (GPS) equipment, installed on the handset.
A police team led by sub-inspector Vishal Ingle then visited Kedgaon in Daund for investigations.
The police had earlier scrutinised the CCTV footage collected from various establishments around the robbery location and created a profile of suspects, based on which the investigations were conducted. This eventually led to the arrest of the duo.
The two suspects were brought to the city and produced before a Pune cantonment court magistrate, who remanded them to police custody till July 4.
Further investigations are on under senior inspector Vishwanath Ghanwat.
