PUNE: Two men were arrested on Friday night for allegedly duping the State Bank of India (SBI), Vimannagar branch to the tune of Rs 51 lakh by obtaining housing loans on forged documents in 2010-11.
Ravindra Rathod (24) of Nigdi and Shankar Chavan (28) of Chinchwad had opened three fictitious accounts at the SBI and had submitted forged documents to get housing loans with which to buy the flats in which they were staying.
The suspects applied for loans without seeking the flat owners’ consent.
According to the police, the suspects had allegedly obtained three loans of Rs 15.5 lakh, Rs 17.5 lakh and Rs 18.5 lakh from the SBI between August 2010 and February 2011.
The SBI registered a complaint of cheating against the suspects and others under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code. A police team led by inspector Mohan Vidhate, sub-inspector Jalindar Tandale and policemen Shakir Jenadi, Javed Pathan, Anil More and Bharat Udhale and others nabbed the suspects, following a tip-off.
The police are on the lookout for more suspects involved in the crime.
