Truck hits road painting workers; 1 dead, 4 injured

Pune: A worker was killed on the spot and four others were injured when a speeding truck hit them on a bridge across Pavana river on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass in Ravet around 3.30am on Monday while they were painting white lines on the highway.
Assistant inspector P R Shikalgar of the Ravet police chowkey said the deceased worker, Sajid Hussain (32), was flung in the air and died on the spot because he was stuck in the machine heating the paint.
The injured workers — Bhola Kumar, Sandip Deshmukh, Anil Kumar and Pralhad Yadav — suffered burns also because hot thermoplastic paint spilled on to them after the accident.“The condition of two workers is critical. They are admitted to a nearby hospital,” he said.
Shikalgar said the truck driver did not stop after the accident. “We have identified the truck and its driver. We shall arrest the driver soon,” he said.
