Pune: Three men attacked a jogger on Tuesday morning and robbed a gold chain worth Rs1.61 lakh from him. The robbery occurred around 5.20am on DP Road, between Mhatre Bridge and Rajaram Bridge, when the victim, an advertising board workshop owner, was on his morning jog.
Alankar police said the victim was jogging towards Rajaram Bridge from Mhatre Bridge when the trio riding on a scooter approached him. Two of them disembarkedand engaged him in a scuffle with the victim while attempting to snatch his chain. After successfully taking the chain the suspects fled towards Nalstop.
Sub inspector Mahesh Nimbalkar told TOI, "The victim, a regular jogger on DP Road was running from Rajaram Bridge to Mhatre Bridge and back towards Rajaram Bridge when the three men on a scooter spotted him. They followed him for a few meters before crossing to the other side of the road.
"Two men alighted from the scooter and jumped over the road divider and went to the other side of the road. They intercepted the jogger and tried to snatch his gold chain," he said. "However, the victim resisted them, which led to the scuffle between them. The duo overpowered him and snatched his gold chain. They ran towards the scooter and drove towards the Nal Stop chowk," he said.
"The victim did not suffer any injuries in the incident," he said.
"We have the movement of the scooter riders on a couple of CCTV cameras in the area. We are trying to ascertain the registration number of the vehicle used in the crime. The suspects applied some dirt on the registration number plate," Nimbalkar said.
