One man from the rear seat got down and asked for the way to Lonikand. As she started to answer, he suddenly snatched her chain and got into the car, which sped to Hadapsar.”
Jadhav added, "The woman raised an alarm, but the suspects picked up speed and fled. An eyewitness jotted down the car’s registration number and shared it with our police team. However, the number turned out to be fake in our verification with the regional transport office (RTO). We are analysing CCTV camera footage to establish the route taken by the car and we hope to arrest the culprits soon. The woman has provided a description of the suspect, saying that he was in the age group of 30 years. He was communicating in Marathi. The details of the two others seated in the car are not yet known.”
He further said, “Suspects involved in chain snatching cases normally use motorcycles for targeting victims. But this may be a first that we have come across an instance of a car being used for committing such a robbery. Our team has started analysing the footage from the spot and other places to track the car-borne men before and after crime. Our probe is on.”
