Trio booked for assaulting pedestrians; one held

Pune: The Khadki police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old youth and booked two others on the charge of attacking two pedestrians with a sharp weapon and robbing one of them of Rs300 after attempting to snatch his cellphone on the service road near the Wakdewadi bus stand in Shivajinagar at around 11.30pm on Monday.Sub-inspector Vaibhav Magdum said, “One of the victims, Sanket Sable (20), an MCA student from Kothrud, had just reached the bus stand to board a bus to Aurangabad. The three men attacked his neck with a sharp weapon after he refused to hand over money to them.”Magdum said the trio later tried to snatch the cell phone of Yogesh Jadhav (27), a travel agent from the Patil Estate slums. When he resisted, they attaced his left cheek with the same weapon and managed to steal Rs300 from him. “After Jadhav raised the alarm, passers-by chased one of them, Arbaz Shaikh (21) from Mahadevwadi in Khadki. He lost his balance and fell down, sustaining injury to his head and hands. The passers-by caught up to him and handed him over to the police,” he added.Shaikh, a first-time offender, was admitted to the Sassoon general hospital and was arrested after he was discharged. His two companions have not been traced yet. A police team is searching for them, Magdum added.
