PUNE: Around 500 students from 19 schools participated in the trash festival, organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Tetra Pak. The festival, which aimed at creating ideas for 'green action', was held at Deccan Education Society's secondary school, a statement issued by TERI said.
The festival was initiated in 2010 in Mumbai, under the aegis of Project Search (Sensitization, Education and Awareness on Recycling for a Cleaner Habitat).

The school education programme on recycling, sustainable development and active citizenship was initiated by TERI, in collaboration with Tetra Pak, in 2009. Trash involves music, theatre and thought provoking sessions to create awareness about the environment.
Eco-workshops, nature trails, film screenings, exhibitions and competitions are a prominent feature of the festival. The students participated in a number of competitions like earth dance, T-shirt painting and Trash Holi, the statement said. Workshops on clay art, paper art and puppet making were also organised for the students and teachers.
The inaugural session was attended by the trustees of Deccan Education Society, RG Pardeshi, principal, Fergusson College and Jaideep Gokhale, Communications Director, Tetra Pak. Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Vidya Niketan School and Vidya Valley were the winners in the Earth Dance Competition.
Amrit Singh (Akshara International School), Yash Sathe, (DES Secondary School), Mohit Bhutada (Acharya Shree Vijay Vallabh School), Mayank Zadap and Rashmi Sajjan (The Bishop's Co-ed School), Ketan Jog and Aryan Kulkarni (Symbiosis School), Pratiksha Devkar and Mohini Kate (Jai Hind School) were the winners in various competitions.
