Three drown in Valvan, Pavana dams

Pune: Two teenage boys drowned in Valvan dam’s reservoir near Lonavla and a 21-year-old man died in the waters of Pavana dam in Maval taluka on Monday afternoon.

According to Lonavla (rural) police, Moij Sajid Khan (15) of Kondhwa and Khushi Sameer Shaikh (14) of Lonavla drowned in Valvan dam’s reservoir at 2pm. Families of both boys were picnicking. The children waded into the waters and failed to assess its depth. Local residents and police officers found the two boys . They were taken to a nearby private hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Shubham Barikrao Vasekar (21) of Charholi near Dighi drowned in the Pavana dam. According to Lonavla (rural) police, Vasekar and his friends were at the dam’s site on Monday afternoon. Vasekar and a friend waded into the water and Vasekar disappeared into its depths within minutes. His friend raised an alarm and local residents rushed to the site. Lonavla police and some divers brought out the body and took it to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
