PUNE: After a gap of over six years, noted theatre guru Satyadeo Dubey will conduct a theatre workshop in the city between June 24 and July 5.
With their unique mix of creative exercises aimed at seeking out the actor in a person, Dubey’s workshops have thrown up a galaxy of accomplished actors over three-and-a-half decades. Workshops conducted by him between 1991 to 1995 had provided a fillip to the amateur theatre movement in the city.
Several stars including Sonali Kulkarni, Amrita Subhash and playwright Sandesh Kulkarni, besides a host of talented actors and technicians emerged from those workshops and went on to form the highly successful amateur group, Samanvay.
As a tribute to late Rajabhau Natu who organised those workshops, Samanvay has once against roped in Dubey for the benefit of upcoming theatre people. “Dubeyji’s workshops are no picnic. They shatter rosy pictures about a career on the stage, but impart an infallible toolkit of acting. They provoke you to think. For some, they prove an introduction to their own personality, says Sandesh Kulkarni of Samanvay.
“It will definitely make it clear if you need not bother with acting, Dubey says in jest. The screening of 40 participants for the workshop has already begun and will continue between 6 am and 8 am till May 30, adds Kulkarni. The 10-evening workshop will be held at the Garware college hall.
