PUNE: Synefra engineering and construction limited, which was till now mainly involved in setting up various projects for Suzlon energy limited, in now aggressively looking beyond for business, mainly related to infrastructure development like ports, roads and industrial infrastructure.
Speaking to reporters Sanjeev Nakhasi, corporate vice-president (operations), Synefra, said, "Since 1998, the company has been busy establishing new facilities for Suzlon.
We have now decided to explore new markets, especially infrastructure development, since the demand in this sphere is growing rapidly. The company has already developed three special economic zones in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat."
Synefra's recent claim to fame has been its ambitious Rs 400-crore project being developed for Suzlon energy at Hadapsar. In the final stages of completion, the project is called One Earth and will be the global headquarter of Suzlon energy. It will have a capacity of 2,300 people and will help Synefra leapfrog into the infrastructure business segment like industrial development, engineering plant erection, commercial complex and power and utility, among others.
It may be noted that Synefra was earlier known as Suzlon infrastructure limited, with J R Tanti as the managing director. Although Synefra and Suzlon are managed by the same family Tantis, the investment and board of the companies are separate.
Sanjay Verma, corporate vice-president (human resources), Synefra, said, "After working for Suzlon in various segments of infrastructure, the company has developed expertise and will now utilise it to grow on its own."
