PUNE: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP
Supriya Sule on Sunday had a brush with safety when a portion of her saree caught fire from a lamp while she was garlanding a statue at a local event in Hinjewadi.
Alert supporters standing around her put it out immediately. An unfazed Sule continued with her day's engagements at functions.
"It is nothing big. These things keep happening and one should not think too much about them and continue with work," she told reporters at the venue.
Sule continued to attend other programmes without changing the saree.
She said that " there were attendees in her various programmes planned for the day" and "keeping them waiting was unbecoming." So, she moved on to attend other events.
The incidence has highlighted the need to take safety precautions and those who attend such public programmes should be careful while lighting the auspicious lamp, she added.
"Not only safety during the public programmes, but also other precautions should be taken by all. They include road safety and women's safety. Our party will organise programmes for it," she said.
