PUNE: A nine-year-old boy died after he was hit by a stray stone on a cricket ground in Pimpri on Tuesday evening.
The boy has been identified as Pratik Dhaku Sudrik of Pimpri. The police are yet to find out who threw the stone.
Pratik had gone to Bhapkar ground near Morwadi chowk on Tuesday evening with his father to watch a cricket match. "Pratik fainted all of a sudden. His father found a big stone near him. But since there was no blood, he thought that Pratik may have got an epileptic attack. He rushed him to a nearby private hospital where the doctors suggested shifting him to the Yashwantrao Chavan memorial hospital. However, Pratik died on the way. The post-mortem report also confirmed that Pratik died due to head injuries," said sub-inspector K D Kathe of the Pimpri police station.
The police suspect the stone was thrown at the field, which hit Pratik accidentally. They are yet to record statements of Pratik's father and relatives which they said they would do in a day or two.
