Pune: Staffers at several shops and eateries in the city have started masking up again, adhering to the recent advisory from the Indian Medical Association amid the Covid surge in China.
“It is better to take preventive action and be careful. The staff interacts with many customers so we have told them to wear masks. We are also encouraging guests to wear masks, but there is no compulsion,” said Ramesh Choudhary, a grocery shop owner at Salunke Vihar.
Prerna Gaikwad, the co-owner of Zyzzyva restaurant in Magarpatta, said, “We have been vigilant about safety of our staffers and customers. During Fridays and weekends, our staffers have been wearing masks. Now, after the advisory from IMA (Indian Medical Association), we have made it mandatory for them to wear it while at work.”
Gaikwad said, “About 60 staffers work on the premises daily. All of them are equipped with sanitisers. We shall also start wearing gloves. Sanitiser stations have been placed at several accessible spots across the premises.”
Manasee Dogra, owner, Manasee Hair Studio 101, said, “As they have to work closely with clients, we have made it compulsory for our staffers to wear masks.”
Hotels and resorts that often welcome travellers from various domestic and international locations have also upped their vigilance.
Pratik Mazumder, the chief marketing officer of Mahindra Resorts, said, “We already have programmes such as ‘SafeStay’ and ‘Travel with Confidence’ implemented at our resorts. When consumers travel, they prioritise health, hygiene, and safety. We have accelerated technological change in the areas of contactless services, real-time information sharing and digitally enabled traveller services, while meeting hygiene and safety standards.
While many businesses have started encouraging their staffers to mask up, others are waiting for official guidelines to be released before implementing it.
Aji Nair, chief advisor and consultant at Mirah Hospitality, said, “Our teams at various restaurant chains were continuing with the practices started during the first wave of the pandemic till October-end this year. If the situation arises, we shall definitely follow the guidelines suggested by the authorities.”
