PUNE: Frequent flyers can breathe a sigh of relief as the skywalk travelators at Aero Mall, a multi-level parking facility, would be operational by the end of September.

According to airport officials, these travelators will help reduce the distance flyers would have to walk from the arrival gate to the cab pick-up point. "There was a delay in procuring the travelators, but now that they have arrived, we are in the process of getting them installed," an airport official told TOI.

The Aero Mall was inaugurated in November last year.

Pune resident, Shantanu Dhar said, "The walk can be tiring for many flyers, especially those coming on red-eye flights. One has to walk to the departure area, take the stairs or escalator to the skywalk, and then again walk for around 50-70 metres to the pick-up point. I recently arrived at the airport from Kolkata on a red-eye flight, and the walk was somehow tiring as I was sleepy. The travelator is a welcome relief, but authorities need to find more solutions."

Airport authorities the number of battery-operated carts would be increased so that flyers can be taken to the pickup point without any hassles.
