PUNE: Ten senior civic officials, on deputation from state government, are yet to pass the mandatory diploma in civic administration exam, a Right to Information Act (RTI) query has revealed.
The information was sought by citizens' group Sajag Nagrik Manch. "It is mandatory for officers to clear at least three subjects course aimed at educating them about the functioning civic administration.
They should have completed the course within a year after joining. But some officials, who have completed over five years, have not completed the course yet," said Vishwas Sahastrabuddhe, a member Sajag Nagrik Manch.
The Pune Municipal Corporation administration had issued a circular in 2006 stating that any official taking charge as deputy commissioner or additional commissioner should complete the course designed by the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA).
As per the circular, the course has been designed to help civic officials deal with issues arising due to urbanization and industrialization The course will and to understand new technology, changes in law and new aspects civic administration.
Mangesh Joshi, head of PMC's labour department, said, "We has sought a written explanation from the officials who have not cleared the course yet."
