PUNE: The bomb detection and disposal squad, and senior police officers carried out searches at the city office of tech giant Google late on Sunday night as well as Monday morning after a Hyderabad-based man called up its Mumbai office, claiming that he had planted a bomb in the firm's Mundhwa facility.
The police officers did not find anything suspicious in the company's Pune office despite conducting searches twice. The building also houses headquarters of a finance company.
On Monday morning, it was revealed that the caller from Hyderabad wanted to make a hoax call to another company having a similar name but ended up calling the Mumbai office of Google.
Additional commissioner of police Ranjan Kumar Sharma told TOI, "The Mumbai police have detained the man with the help of the Hyderabad police. The BKC police of Mumbai are investigating the case as Google officials have lodged an FIR there."
He said, "We learnt from the Mumbai police that the detained man's brother is employed in Pune. The name of the latter's company is like Google. The detained man has some property dispute with his brother. He decided to make the hoax call to trouble the latter but ended up calling the Google's Mumbai office. We have made a station diary entry at the Mundhwa police station."
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone V) Vikrant Deshmukh told TOI, "We are yet to record statement of his brother. We shall also question him after the Mumbai police's interrogation is over."
