SATARA: Bollywood actor
Aamir Khan got his brand new Rolls-Royce registered from the Satara regional transport office on Saturday. He also managed to get a special number - MH 11 AX 1 - for his new acquisition.
A number of onlookers stopped by to see the shining, metallic silver coloured car when it was brought to the RTO for registration by an agent. Deputy regional transport officer V R Gujarathi confirmed that the car belonged to the actor and that he had requested registration number '1' for the car.
"The RTO charged over Rs 47 lakh as tax and another Rs 3 lakh for the special number.
Since the particular number was not available in four-wheeler series, it was allotted from the two-wheeler series. The car has been registered in the name of Advital Post Studios Ltd and the address given is building 7D, Silver Valley Society, Khingar, taluka Mahabaleshwar," Gujarathi said. Aamir Khan had bought this property five years ago.
Sources in the RTO said that Mumbai-based Navneet Motors imported the car from the UK at a price of Rs 1.22 crore. The customs duty was calculated at Rs 1.41 crore and the RTO charged Rs 47.57 lakh tax, besides Rs 3 lakh for the special number. The total cost of the car works out to Rs 3.11 crore.
The car has a 12-cylinder, 6,592 CC engine and can travel at a speed of 300 kmph. The bonnet of the car carries the trademark golden coloured 'R' lettered logo of the company. Some of the features of the car include touch sensors, cameras, a monogram that can be concealed, and double exhaust. RTO sources said it was the costliest car registered at the Satara RTO so far.
RTO sources said Satara was preferred for registration of cars as one can get the figure '1' included in vehicle number plates. Moreover, the registration number of the city is 'MH 11'. Earlier, when the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation had bought the first 12 Volvo buses, all the buses were sent to Satara for registration and were allotted serial numbers from 1 to 12.
