Sahakarnagar firing proves Pune CP’s claim of decrease in crime false: Sule
Pune: NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule on Thursday targeted the state govt as well as Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar and said the firing incident in Sahakarnagar on Wednesday night proved that claims of crime declining in the city were false.
Recently, Sule and Kumar had indulged in a war of words through an exchange of letters over the crime rate in Pune. The NCP (SP) working president said that Pune had become the crime capital of Maharashtra. Kumar countered her and wrote back with statistics claiming that crime had declined in the city.
The firing incident near Shinde High School on Padmavati-Sahakarnagar Road on Wednesday night comes against this backdrop, leading to Sule’s fresh statement where she took a dig at Kumar.
She said, “I spoke about the crime scene in Pune based on data released by the state and central govts. After the Pune police commissioner sent in the numbers, I had planned to write to the Union home minister and request him to correct their data. However, the firing took place before I could.”
The Baramati MP said the fear of law was diminishing in the district. “Pune is known for its rich culture, but its reputation is being tarnished due to cases like firing, koyta gang attacks, hooch tragedy and drug parties. The Sahakarnagar case was the third firing incident in a short span, exposing the deplorable law and order situation that prevails,” she added.
