Sachin, Dhoni at opening of cricket academy

PUNE: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkarand one-day cricket captain M.S. Dhoni will be the star attractions for theinaugural function of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Vengsarkarcricket academy at Thergaon on October 24. A 20-20 match between Mumbai andMaharashtra is also scheduled to mark the inaugural event.DilipVengsarkar, former chairman of the selection committee, Board of Cricket Controlof India (BCCI), said "the T20 match will begin at 10.30 am. Top players andstars will participate in the match. I have spoken to Dhoni and Tendulkar. Theywill come for the inauguration. I have also spoken to Sharad Pawar, but hehasn't confirmed his presence."A memorandum of understanding (MOU)was signed between the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and DilipVengsarkar Cricket Academy (DVCA) in May 2007 to set up the Pimpri-ChinchwadMunicipal Corporation Dilip Vengsarkar Cricket Academy at Thergaon. The work ofconstructing the pavilion is in progress."As many as 15 wickets havebeen prepared at the academy. They will take some time to settle down. Outfieldis ready," Vengsarkar said. He added that "It will take three months to completethe pavilion. A club house will be developed in a couple of years. There will bea gymnasium as well."
