Pune RTO hikes test quota for permanent licence

PUNE: The wait for an appointment for a driving test to secure a permanent licence at the Pune

(RTO) will reduce considerably with the authorities deciding to increase the number of tests conducted per day by 100 for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers from August 21.


The current number of driving tests conducted by the RTO on the tracks of the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) per day is 220 for permanent licence seekers for four-wheelers. At the

test track, 200 tests are conducted per day for those seeking permanent licence for two-wheelers.

“For the last few months, we are increasing the quota for permanent driving licence. Last year, the number had been reduced owing to staff crunch but things are getting normal now. Currently, as the officers have resumed their duties, we have decided to increase the number of driving tests per day,” said deputy RTO Vinod Sagare.

Going by the new directive, driving tests will be conducted for a total of 300 two-wheeler drivers and 320 four-wheeler drivers every day from August 21. Once an individual gets a learner licence, the applicant has to wait for a month to reapply for permanent licence.
