PUNE: An 18-month-old infant,
Krishna Govardhan Vishwakarma
, was run over by a reversing sports utility vehicle on Sunday morning in Thergaon.
The Wakad police arrested the driver Nilesh Namdev Mahanavar (24) of Thergaon after the infant’s relative Sheetal Rahul Vishwakarma (22) lodged a complaint.
Senior police inspector Shridhar Jadhav of Wakad police station said the
infant’s parents are casual labourers
and the
SUV driver is their neighbour
.
The child was
playing in the common area
behind the SUV. The driver did not check before reversing and the child was caught beneath one of the wheels. The driver and the local residents took the child to a hospital where he was declared dead.
