Pvt company staffer loses `1.4 lakh in online fraud
Pune: A cybercrook posing as an executive from a private finance firm duped a 34-year-old private company employee of Rs 1.45 lakh. He pretended to be making a verification call after disbursement of a loan.On March 22, the cybercrook sent a link to the victim and gained access to his bank account. He then siphoned off the amount through five transactions. On Saturday, the victim filed a complaint with the Chinchwad police. Inspector Prakash Jadhav of the Chinchwad police told TOI that the complainant had applied for a loan from the private finance company, which had been transferred to his bank account. “On March 22, the complainant received the call, allegedly from the finance firm's electronic clearance service office at Borivali in Mumbai,” Jadhav said.Jadhav added that the caller sent a link to the complainant and requested him to click it for completion of necessary formalities. “The complainant clicked the link and later found that Rs 1.45 lakh were debited from his bank account,” Jadhav said.A case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating) and 419 (cheating by impersonation) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, he added.
