PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad police are on the lookout for a man on the run after stabbing two men to death with a sharp weapon at Savardari village in Khed taluka on Saturday evening after the victims reprimanded the assailant for teasing women in the area.
The victims - Suraj Chavan (27) and his relative Aniket Pawar (24) - suffered severe wounds in the assault.
They were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
"Five teams from the Pimpri Chinchwad police have been pressed into service to trace the attacker," said inspector Kishor Patil of the Mhalunge police.
The victims resided in a chawl in Savardari.
"The suspect, too, was residing in the same chawl. A month ago, he was told to leave the area after the women started complaining that he used to tease them," Patil added.
Patil said that on Saturday evening, the man started harassing women once again.
When he broke the window glass of the bathroom of Chavan's neighbour, Chavan's wife informed him about it.
"Chavan and his relative Pawar reprimanded the man for his actions. The man, who was brandishing a sharp weapon, attacked Chavan and Pawar. He stabbed the duo with the weapon and fled the spot," he added.
Along with the police teams of Mhalunge chowkey, crime branch teams were also pressed into service to trace the man, said Patil.
