Externed criminal arrested for multiple burglaries in Pune

Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch on Wednesday arrested an externed criminal and detected six cases, including five burglaries. He committed thefts by violating his externment order. The police recovered a motorcycle and stolen mobile handsets collectively worth Rs1.8 lakh from the suspect, Abhijit Roy (25) of Sane Chowk in Chikhali. A crime branch team led by senior inspector Vijay Dhamal took Roy into custody from Chakan on a tip-off.Dhamal said, "Roy has 19 cases of burglaries registered against him. He was externed by the Pimpri Chinchwad police from Pune district for a period of two years in July last year." Dhamal mentioned that the police received a tip-off that the externed criminal would be coming to Chakan to sell stolen mobile handsets. "We laid a trap and took him into custody. We recovered a stolen motorcycle and a few mobile handsets from him," Dhamal said.The officer stated that during questioning, Roy admitted his involvement in six cases, including five burglaries and one vehicle theft. "Of these, five cases were registered with the Pimpri Chinchwad police and one with the Ahilyanagar police," the officer said. He explained that Roy used to break the shutters of small shops which did not have a central locking system. "Roy used to steal cash and mobile handsets from these shops," he said.
