Pune: Two men riding on motorcycle died after a garbage truck of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) hit their vehicle at Turf club chowk in Wanowrie around 11.45am on Friday.


Hanumant Kale (43) and pillion rider Datta Kale (40) from Adalgaon in Ahmednagar district died due to multiple injuries.

The Wanowrie police later arrested the truck driver Israr Ahmed Mohammad Illiyas Shaikh (40) from Gole Road in Shivajinagar on the charge of causing death due to negligence.

“The truck driver was appointed on contractual basis by the PMC for collecting and disposing garbage at its waste treatment plant at Ramtekdi. Shaikh was heading in the direction of Swargate from Fatimanagar and was passing via Bhairobanala chowk when he suddenly took a right turn without giving signal and hit the motorcycle also heading in the same direction from the right side,” a police officer said.

"Shaikh, who stopped at the roadside after the accident was taken into custody. We have seized the truck for RTO inspection,” he said.
