PUNE/CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A Pune crime branch team on Tuesday morning detained the father of the teenage driver involved in Sunday’s fatal accident that killed two techies, his driver and an associate from separate places in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The father, a prominent builder, is facing charges of giving his son his high-end car to drive despite knowing that the latter did not have a driving licence nor was he trained to drive the car and that his son consumed alcohol. The builder was detained from a lodge in Sambhajinagar, while his driver and associate were picked from a hotel.
The police will produce the builder before a city court on Wednesday after his formal arrest. “We will question the other two and take a call on whether to make them co-accused in the case,” Pune commissioner of police (CP) Amitesh Kumar said.
Around 2.30am on Sunday, a Porsche Taycan, driven by the 17-year-old, hit a motorcycle from behind in Kalyaninagar, killing two techies on it. The deceased were identified as Anish Awadhia and Ashwini Kosta, both aged 24 and hailed from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
In a related development, police arrested Naman Bhutada (25) and Sachin Kaatkar (35), the owner and a staffer, respectively, at Cosie pub in Mundhwa and Sandip Sangle (35), an assistant restaurant manager at Blak Marriott pub, also in Mundhwa, which the boy had visited to party with his friends before the accident.
