Policeman caught taking new Rs 2,000 notes as bribe
A policeman was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs4,000 in return for not arresting the accused in a cheque bounce case. The arrest was made by the state anti-corruption bureau, Pune, on Monday night.
What’s more, Santosh Gaikwad (52), an assistant sub-inspector attached to the Bibvewadi police station, had specifically wanted newly-issued currency notes. “We arrested him while he was accepting two notes of Rs2,000 (from the complainant),” said an ACB officer.

The hearing of the cheque-bounce case is in progress at the Shivajinagar court. When the complainant was a no-show at the hearing recently, the court had issued a non-bailable warrant against his name. Bibvewadi police were asked to execute the warrant, the officer said.
Gaikwad allegedly approached the complainant, and demanded Rs5,000 in exchange for not arresting him. He later agreed to accept Rs4,000.
After verifying the details from the complainant, the ACB laid a trap near Bibvewadi police station. tnn
