Police book woman for selling fake ‘branded’ clothes at Kothrud store

PUNE: The Alankar police on Friday evening booked the owner of a prominent branded goods shop in Kothrud for selling counterfeit products under prominent international brands.
A case has been registered under the provisions of Indian Copyright Act against the woman after an official representing various clothing brands, Mahesh Kamble of Range Hills, lodged a complaint with the police.

A team comprising police and Kamble seized counterfeit clothes worth Rs4 lakh from the shop.
After receiving information that the shop was selling these goods, representatives of various prominent clothing brandsand police raided the shop, located on the first floor of a commercial complex in an upmarket area of Kothrud.
Police seized duplicate garments of prominent brands, like Nike, adidas, Victoria’s Secret, and others. The authorities said they had yet to ascertain where the showroom procured the counterfeit clothes from and that investigations were on.
Police said the suspect and her sales staff were found selling the duplicate products with the price tags matching the originals.
The company representatives said the suspect had misled and cheated many customers over the past few months.
