PUNE: The civic administration gave bulk garbage generators two weeks to start processing wet waste on their premises on Monday, the same day the Centre announced the budgetary allocation for the next phase of the Swachh Bharat initiative.
In the 2021-22 Union Budget, the central government allocated nearly Rs1.42 lakh crore to Urban
Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.
Additional PMC commissioner Kunal Khemnar said they have submitted a proposal for Rs380 crore for innovative waste-to-energy projects in the city.
He said they would study the provisions of Swachh Bharat 2.0 and submit another proposal.
PMC solid waste management department head Madhav Jagtap said the civic body would suspend tax benefits for societies with defunct processing units. “Over 3,000 such establishments have been identified,” a PMC official said.
