PUNE: The
education department
of
the Pune Municipal Corporation
has told teachers to collate information about students who have left for their home towns during the lockdown and may not return when
schools
reopen.
Lakhs of migrants have gone back to their home states or to other districts within the state. The education authorities expect a large number of students to be missing from the schools.
Education officer
Minakshi Raut
said the survey was decided at a meeting on Monday. “We will see how many students will return and how many will not be able to once the school reopens so that we can plan.”
Teachers have been busy with Covid-19 duties till now which delayed the survey. “Some are busy even now. We have told them to finish the survey in the next eight days,” she added.
Education commissioner
Vishal Solanki had earlier said the drop-out rate in schools was a concern and the department will conduct a statewide survey. The teacher-volunteers or Balrakshaks will help get back students if they are in their home villages and parents do not enrol them in the nearby Zilla Parishad schools.
