PhD student abuses B’luru duo, damages windshield

Pune: A PhD student was arrested on Tuesday on the charges of abusing a woman, roughing up her husband, jumping on the bonnet of her car and damaging its windscreen in a road rage following a minor accident on Friday night.
The Chatushrungi police made the arrest and identified the alleged perpetrator as Sujit Kate (24), a resident of Sangvi, who has been booked for offences punishable under sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 324 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 427 (mischief) of the IPC— following a complaint by the 40-year-old woman, who hails from Bengaluru.

“We produced Kate before a city court on Tuesday and the court ordered his remand in magisterial custody, following which he moved a bail plea and secured the bail,” sub-inspector Balasaheb Zarekar said.
“Kate, who belongs to a family with a political background, is pursuing his PhD in botany from an institution in Pimpri Chinchwad,” he added.
He said, “The woman and her husband were travelling in a car from Bremen Chowk to Spicer College around 8.45pm on Friday. Their car grazed Kate’s four-wheeler. Kate jumped on the bonnet of the car and pushed the husband. He damaged the vehicles windscreen.”
