People’s court settles 5,500 cases

As many as 5,500 cases were settled at the Loknyalaya, popularly known as the people’s court at the district and sessions court in Shivajinagar.

PUNE: As many as 5,500 cases were settled at the Loknyalaya, popularly known as the people’s court at the district and sessions court in Shivajinagar.
The loknyalaya was organised by the Pune district legal services authority (PDLSA) under the guidance of its chairman and principal district and sessions judge Anant Badar.
The PDLSA referred 20,500 cases for settlement before the loknyalaya and appealed to the litigants to participate in large numbers for settling their disputes.

The litigants turned up at the loknyalaya and 5,500 cases including civil, criminal, cheque bounce, landlords and tenant disputes, motor accident claims tribunal, minors’ involvement in crime and pre-litigation cases were settled in the presence of 38 panel judges.
PDLSA secretary V K Kadam said that the petitioners involved in motor accident claims tribunal cases were awarded a compensation of 62.93 lakh as they entered into a compromise with insurance companies and other parties involved in the litigation.
Kadam said that the litigants involved in pre-litigation cases settled their disputes to the tune of Rs 1.70.43 crore.
The Shirur court has settled 1,855 cases in Pune district.
The loknyalaya function was attended by judges O P Jaiswal, S D Tulankar, S S Gadge, U L Telgaonkar and R H Mohammad.
