Rahul Jadhav said the civic body will construct a sewage treatment plant(STP) in Chikhali to check pollution of the Indrayani river and will take step to reduce inconvenience to the residents.
Jadhav on Friday said Chikhali was one of the 18 villages that was merged into Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits in 1997 and the state government had approved the development plan for the villages in 2008.
“This DP has a list of plots reserved for roads, hospitals, gardens, STPs and others. Now,
PCMC
is getting possession of land to develop amenities. The builders bought lands near the STP site in 2011 and got their building plans passed from PCMC. They knew the plot is reserved for an STP but they constructed flats and sold them to the people,” he said.
Buyers should have checked the DP map too, he said. The civic body received possession of land in 2015-16 and has begun constructing a compound wall for STP project now. The sewage generated by the lakhs of people living in Talawade and Chikhali is released untreated into the Indrayani. “People must not oppose the STP. We can undertake steps to reduce their inconvenience like increasing the compound wall’s height,” Jadhav said.
Malhari Madane, working president of Chikhali-Moshi Housing Federation said, “Around one lakh people will be affected by the air pollution due to the STP. The PCMC must create a garden at this site and construct an STP in an area where there are no houses. We will meet the mayor next week.”
Leader of the opposition Datta Sane on Thursday had alleged that the civic body was flouting rules to construct the STP. He demanded that the civic body stop the construction and cancel the project.
