PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: A private contractor has been appointed to manage parking in select corridors of
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation
.
The contractor would operate and maintain parking operations along major corridors within the jurisdiction of PCMC. He would collect parking fees using electronic devices and share parking data with the
PCMC
on a daily basis,officials said.
It would be the duty of the private contractor to ensure that vehicles are parked within the designated parking spaces. He would work with the PCMC traffic police and inform them in the event of parking violations.
Initially, the contractor would manage 13 roads for a period of one year,said officials. The contractor would enable quick and hassle-free payment of parking fees through a hand-held electronic ticket machine and a mobile phone-based payment system.
All payments would be collected through electronic means and deposited directly into an escrow account operated by PCMC.
In order to ease congestion on roads and minimise the use of personalised vehicles by the residents, the PCMC had drawn up a public parking policy for 2018-19.
Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar approved the proposal in this regard at an estimated cost of Rs 20lakh.
