Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on Friday announced an amnesty scheme for property tax defaulters to recover arrears and boost revenue in the last month of the 2025-26 financial year.Addressing a press conference, mayor Ravi Landge said the civic body would offer a 90% waiver on penalties on the principal tax arrears under the scheme. The benefit would be available to taxpayers who clear their entire outstanding in a single payment between March 1 and 31.
A senior PCMC official said around 2.12 lakh owners collectively owe Rs 1,394 crore to the civic body. Under the scheme, penalties amounting to nearly Rs 467 crore are likely to be waived. When asked whether the scheme would be extended next year, he said the decision has been taken only for the current financial year and added that an appropriate decision on its continuation would be taken at a later stage if required. The decision came after newly elected corporators, during the first general body meeting, urged the administration to introduce an amnesty scheme on the lines of the Pune Municipal Corporation, which offers a 75% waiver.Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar said the scheme would be applicable to all property categories, including residential, commercial, industrial and open plots. Landge was accompanied by members of the ruling party, including the leader of the house, as well as opposition leaders such as LoP Bhausaheb Bhoir, signalling that the decision was a consensus.
